CHUCK'S MUSIC

Lately I’ve been experimenting with music composition and production, using my MacBook Pro as a digital audio workstation. I have recently upgraded from Garageband to Logic Pro.

From 2008 to 2014, I lived on the island of Cozumel, in Mexico. I spent a lot of time scuba diving, and shot about 75 hours of underwater video. My plan is to edit the best of it down to a sort of video slideshow, and to write original music to go with it.

At this point I’m still experimenting with the technology and trying to see what I can do, musically. Lately I have branched out from the film scoring and have tried recording a couple of classic pop covers.

Below, I have posted a few things that I'm currently working on. None of them are actually finished. Who knows if they ever will be. :-)

GARAGEBAND TEST

This bit of music was created as a kind of proof of concept. It’s not going to end up as a score for any video. It's more of an experiment to see if I could link several musical themes together, in a way that had some orchestral flavor. I tried to do a little of everything. Key changes, tempo changes, sound effects, etc.

DESCENDING

DOG IS FEELIN FINE

This is my first attempt at an original song with lyrics (by Jay Lanahan). It is currently very unfinished. I will be adding some more lead guitar overdubs. The drums and bass are mostly placeholders at this point. I think it's going to be pretty good if it's ever done.

FISH LOVE

This music will eventually be the soundtrack for a short, yet to be edited underwater video that I shot while I was living in Cozumel. There are several species of fish that always travel in pairs. On one occasion, I got too close to a White Spotted Filefish, and it immediately swam over to be by its mate, seemingly for security. I have some footage of a beautiful Angelfish pair swimming in synchronized maneuvers. It must be fish love.

FLOATING

FOR WHAT ITS WORTH

OK. This song as well as the next one were not recorded for video soundtrack. I just got the desire to see what I could do with real guitars and vocal harmonies. My voice is pretty weak, but it came out better than I would have thought, and it was a lot of fun. This song is not really finished. It's got a section in the middle that is waiting for a lead guitar solo. Anybody out there play guitar?

GUITAR PRACTICE

Just a beginning. Will eventually be adding more tracks.

MEXICO

That James Taylor. He is so selfish. If he could've just waited 30 or 40 years without releasing the definitive original version of this song… Well, I could've had a hit on my hands. :-)

PINNACLES

This music was written for an as yet unedited underwater video which will feature tall coral pinnacles. I was going for a majestic feeling.

SOFT CORAL

See the 2 minute video at: Soft Coral

STRINGS

Another bit of music for a future underwater video which will feature thousands of tiny white fish swarming around me as I was solo diving.

TEQUILA SUNRISE

This is the Chuck Williams "Band" with Mike Shaw sittin' in. Mike contributed the lead vocal and the virtual pedal steel guitar.
