IMAGE EDITING Chuck Williams |
SHOOT ARCHITECTURAL INTERIORS WITH YOUR IPHONE?... SERIOUSLY? YOU SHOOT - I EDITOK. You tried it and the results were ... not good. But you might rethink the whole idea when you see what pro editing can do. I'm not bragging but… well, yeah I guess I am. :-)For years, I have been amazed at the quality of the snapshots coming out of my iPhones. They handled lighting and exposures, and gave me a pretty good picture right out of the phone. I used to joke that they were going to put me out of business. But wait. I was just kidding. Because I knew that if you took a close look, the image quality just wasn’t there. They might look pretty good on your phone, but they couldn't really compete with a dedicated camera... But then... In the last couple of years Apple has taken image quality to a new level. We’ve got raw files, ProRAW files. We’ve even got some usable HDR functionality. The images are sharper, and cleaner. And the resolutions have gotten higher. THIS MAY BE THE LEAP IN TECHNOLOGY THAT FINALLY ALLOWS DESIGNERS TO SHOOT THEIR OWN PHOTOS!!!
Like with any other camera, iPhone files must be edited.
Lately, I’ve been working on a number of images shot with fairly late model iPhones, and I am more and more impressed. The images still need to be edited, just as they would shot with any other camera. There are the same issues with controlling the perspective, correcting the odd colors, and bringing out the detail in the highlights and shadows. And, of course, retouching out the lamp cords and AC outlets is no different from any other camera. Sans TripodBut for once, it’s the actual designer doing the shooting, and they’re not even using a tripod!! Thinking About Trying It?Editing iPhone files is a pretty new thing for me, and I learn more with each project. If you've got any images that you've shot with your phone, email them to me. I might be able to throw together a free demo. If you're thinking about trying it soon, let's talk. There are a few things to consider. You can't use my full double secret shooting technique without a tripod, but I might be able to give you some helpful tips.
